CADCraft 2D DXF Workspace

Open the independently hosted CADCraft Web editor for 2D DXF drawings. Try an original millimeter plate with real dimensions and layers; inspect the Web DWG limitation and separate Open CAD Studio identity.

2D DXF drafting with layers and dimensions

Open the official CADCraft 0.8.0 Web build, independently hosted in its own editor tab. Create lines, circles and dimensions; organize layers and save DXF copies. This pinned Web build explicitly rejects DWG reading and writing with a “save as DXF” error. No editor resource loads before an explicit launch.

Original dimensioned plate sample

Download the original CC0 plate DXF. Six model-space entities; insertion units millimeters ($INSUNITS=4), DXF AC1032. OUTLINE has a closed 120×80 rectangle and a circle at (60,40), radius 10. REFERENCE has a (10,10)→(40,50) line, length 50. DIMENSIONS has actual 120/80 linear dimension entities and one text label.

  1. Open the DXF and zoom to drawing extents.
  2. Inspect Units, the reference-line endpoints and layers; hide and restore a layer.
  3. Add geometry or dimensions, download a DXF copy through Save or Save As and reopen the download.
  4. Check units and measurements; changing a unit label does not automatically rescale geometry.
  5. Use #x,y for absolute coordinates: line #10,65 #35,65 drafts a 25 mm line. Enter accepts the final point; another Enter finishes the line. Escape clears an active prompt before a new command.

Formats and measured scope

The native 0.8.0 engine added a second circle, saved DXF and exported SVG, PNG and PDF. Independent ezdxf checks confirmed actual rectangle vertices, circle coordinates, a 50-unit line, units, layers and dimension measurements. The original audit had zero errors and zero fixes. Native DWG read/write was checked separately through the desktop bridge; it is unavailable in this Web build. The actual Web editor added a radius-5 circle at (90,40), a 25 mm line and a measured 25 mm dimension, saved DXF, reopened that download and saved again. Independent reads retained all nine entities, millimeter units, 25/50 mm lines and 25/80/120 mm dimensions, with zero audit errors or fixes. A real DWG input received the explicit Web rejection. This is a small original fixture test, not a guarantee for every drawing. SVG/PNG/PDF observations are native-only; those Web exports were not tested here.

Keep original drawings. Complex blocks, references, layouts, unsupported objects and fonts need separate inspection. SVG is an illustration output, not an editable CAD document preserving CAD units and constraints.

Open CAD Studio is a separate project

Open CAD Studio belongs to HakanSeven12/OpenCADStudio, GPL-3.0, with its own official desktop/Web format claims. The hosted editor here is storytold/CADCraft under MIT or Apache-2.0, with separate attribution. Neither project's claims establish support in the other.

Files and recovery

The editor opens local files in a separate tab and uses browser downloads. Settings and recovery data may remain in browser storage; keep exported backups. Use a current desktop WebGL2 browser with decompression support and a keyboard/mouse.
